The Barn is a big ol' slice of classic Americana, right down to the plaid carpeting and Flintstone-sized pieces of house-made coconut cake.

There's nothing trendy about Cameron Mitchell's country-barn-meets-country-club steakhouse. Large portioned dishes aren't designed to share. Sinfully starchy potatoes haven't been swapped for quinoa. The Barn is a big ol' slice of classic Americana, right down to the plaid carpeting and Flintstone-sized pieces of house-made coconut cake. The nonconformity is refreshing for a CMR concept, even if the food, while well-executed, is a little prosaic, in step with CMR's please-all-palates style. Regardless, it's the details that hook us: specialty Woodford Reserve bourbons, a smoker visible from the four-season patio, a picture window with a front-row view of the meat cutter's station, and a free dip and pickle bar inside the Bourbon Lounge. It's the niceties that make The Barn the most fun new restaurant to dine in this year. Just don't forget your wallet. thebarncolumbus.com
