Enter and the initial feeling is sports bar, with trivia night and televisions plastering the walls. But with 80 beer taps plus another 100 bottles, the bar elevates itself beyond a simple wings-and-burgers watering hole to a worthy beer bar. The tap list nods to popular craft breweries like Dogfish Head, Lagunitas and Great Divide, but Ohio breweries get to shine, too, as franchisee Mic Foster promised they would: Cincinnati's Rhinegeist and Madtree, Brew Kettle from Strongsville, and Central Ohio's Hoof Hearted, Four String and Seventh Son.

The selling point, and what makes the chain worth a stop, lies in its unique finds, like Rhinegeist's Saber Tooth Tiger imperial IPA, Four String's Devilock stout- or Hoof Hearted's Saizzurp saison. Their presence indicates some forethought behind the beer menu, ranking Brass Tap as a craft beer aficionado's destination. The beers are complemented by an unremarkable menu of bar snacks like fries and chicken fingers, but there are enough unique brews to keep the beer-seekers interested. brasstapbeerbar.com/columbus
