I've found myself eating at several great places along Hamilton Road in the past few weeks. I wrote about the delicious Greek gyros at King Gyros for the Dispatch this week, and also got a chance to try some Salvadoran cuisine at El Salvadoreno.
I was lured to this place by the promise of these plantain empenadas, which were indeed very tasty, and also got to try a nice variety of Salvadoran specialties. Most of the various appetizer dishes we tried came with curtido, similar to cole slaw, and a little bowl of tomatoey red sauce to spoon over top.
Here's what I tried:
Sopa Pollo: A hearty and delicious chicken soup with noodles, potatoes, carrots and zucchini, served with a side dish of fantastic fried dark-meat chicken that we chopped up and threw in for good measure.
Yucca with Chicharones: Lightly fried root veggies with deep-fried pork rinds. Way better than it sounds.
Pastelitos de Papa & Pollo: crunchy fried empenadas stuffed with chicken and mashed potatoes.
Everything was great, and I left very full. This place is definitely worth seeking out.
