Dane's Dessert Cafe opened a few weeks ago on Poplar Ave., the little alley between the Cap and Short North proper (right across from MoJoe Lounge). Their mission, as detailed on their website, is lofty: "For us, desserts are no longer a second thought hastily put together. They're now wild fantasies on a plate, and affordable luxuries that bring us back to wonderful childhood memories."
So do they succeed? Well, the crepe I ordered was certainly indulgent, and did give me that gleeful feeling that comes with eating dessert before dinner as an adult--something you could never do as a kid.
Here's what I had: Rock My Boat Crepe with Nutella, sliced strawberries, scoops of vanilla and chocolate Johnson's ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. The crepe was thin and very pancake-y, and you could also order this same combo on a Belgian waffle instead.
Mid-afternoon sugar rushes are the best, huh?
