A great bloody mary needs two things-a fresh tomato base to build on and great garnishes that could really be in a meal on their own. The latter is the reason why I am so enamored with the new customizable bloody mary bar at Worthington Inn.

A great bloody mary needs two things-a fresh tomato base to build on and great garnishes that could really be in a meal on their own. The latter is the reason why I am so enamored with the new customizable bloody mary bar at Worthington Inn.

The bloody mary bar kicked off the same day the restaurant nixed its 30-year Sunday brunch buffet. (Yes, if you hadn't yet heard, the all-you-can-eat buffet is gone.) In its place, you'll find a fresh collection of breakfast items that reflect the locally-sourced mentality of the kitchen (I highly recommend the huevos-rancheros inspired Eggs Benedicto). It only makes sense the bar would follow, too. That's why you'll find Watershed vodka in every bloody mary.

Order the bloody mary for $10 and your server will hand you a long menu with a list of 15 garnishes and nine hot sauces from which to choose. Here, you'll circle what you want (sort of like checking off your order on a sushi menu) to customize the perfect bloody. So long measly sprig of celery!

I opted for celery, carrot, dill pickle, salami, pickled green bean, cheese and a slice of bacon that managed to stay crispy while I enjoyed my drink. I spiced things up with Tabasco, Sriracha and CaJohn's Chipotle sauce for a little smoky heat. Just be patient if everyone at your table orders from the menu-customization takes time, but it's a worthwhile price to pay.

Here are your options:

Garnishes: Celery, carrot, cucumber, green olive, kalamata olive, dill pickle, pickled hot pepper, bacon, salami, pickled green been, pearl onion, pickled jalapeno pepper, spring onion, cheese and cherry tomato

Hot sauces: Tabasco, Sriracha, CaJohn's Curry Fruit, CaJohn's Chipotle, CaJohn's Habanero, Magma Hot Sauce, Gwendolyn's Pepper Sauce (red or green), Chef Tom's house-made "Holy Hell" Habanero Sauce
