We love the way chefs are spicing up dishes with this flavorful Tunisian condiment made of hot peppers. It’s been spotted most notably in Darista Cafe’s hot Moroccan Carrot Dip and at Rigsby’s Kitchen in a harissa-marinated calamari salad on the latest small plate menu.

These traditional steamed rolls are showing up in untraditional ways. In addition to a regular pork belly offering, Jobu Ramen offers a daily feature (including a fantastic spicy walleye version). Veritas Tavern recently offered a more classic and deeply rich pork belly steam bun. Out: Boring burger buns

Downtown bar-cade 16-Bit is no longer the only game in town. Campus bar and coffee shop Ethyl & Tank gives diners a chance to play old-school arcade games. Gastropub The Crafty Pint entertains guests with old Trivial Pursuit cards at every table. Out: Texting at the dinner table
