Sample dishes from some of the city's best restaurants, and benefit a good cause at the same time. Columbus State Community College's Taste the Future is an event that tastes good and does good, too.
When I moved to Columbus in late summer 2010, I admit I didn't know much about the Columbus dining scene. Sure, I knew of Jeni's (and already harbored a healthy addiction to pistachio honey) and Cameron Mitchell. But beyond that, I knew I had a lot to learn.
Thankfully, a coworker suggested I attend that year's Taste the Future event-a food showcase fundraiser that benefits student scholarships at Columbus State Community College. It was here where I got my first taste of restaurants like The Refectory, G. Michael's, Lindey's and Barcelona. And as the food scene has grown in the city, so has this event.
This year's Taste the Future is Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the CSCC campus at 550 E. Spring St., Downtown. The funds raised from the $100 tickets go to support student scholarships and programing. And, if this year is anything like year's past, there will be more than your money's worth of eats from nearly 50 area restaurants, food trucks and catering companies, plus drinks from local distilleries Middle West Spirits and Watershed.
