This post is for those who feel they need a brief separation from their coffee addictions (myself included here). Here's the latest what-to-give-up suggestion in our week-long build up to Fat Tuesday and the season of deprivation that follows. (In case you missed the previous days: No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4.)
If you can't possibly fathom giving up your a.m. cup of joe, consider ditching the Starbucks habit for a local roast.
Give up: That daily cup (or three) of coffee.
Treat yourself: But you don't have to quit hot beverages altogether. Turn to tea instead-be it blends with caffeine like black and greed, or caffeine-free varieties like herbal. There are plenty of spots in Columbus to go for great loose leafs blends of all styles and flavors. Here are a few of our favorites:
Stauf's in Grandview. Don't be fooled by its coffee roaster reputation. Stauf's has one of the most varied tea selections in town. Order a cup and you'll be directed to the back room and a wall of glass containers from which you can fill your own tea bag. If you're a chai fan, Stauf's is a must-stop as they offer a variety of styles of chai.
TehKu in Dublin is part teahouse, part cafe. From this quaint Dublin shop, you can grab loose leaf teas to go, or take a seat at the tea counter and enjoy a matcha scone or latte. Tea finds its way into nearly everything here, including chicken noodle soup. If TehKu sounds familiar, it's probably because you'll find their blends at restaurants all over town include Rigsby's and Katalina's.
