Lineage Brewing, Clintonville's first microbrewery, is now serving at its 2971 N. High St. taproom. For this week's soft opening, Lineage has tapped its cream ale, Berliner weisse, coconut porter and English-style rye ale. By this weekend, an IPA should also be on draft, says Lineage partner Jessica Byrne. Rambling House soda, growlers and growler fills are available, as well.

By April 1, Lineage's official opening date, the brewery will offer its full food menu-five seasonal hand pies (spinach, samosa, banh mi, duck confit and s'more varieties, to start), a bourbon-spiked bacon plate, a sheep and cow's milk cheese plate and several vegan-friendly salads. The hand pies were inspired by Byrne's Colombian heritage (she wants to offer authentic empanadas down the road), as well as Lineage's aim to offer fresh, not fried, pub snacks.

Lineage has also installed a two-line beer engine behind the bar for tapping casks (and smoothing the beer's mouth-feel). Eventually, Mike Byrne, partner and brewery operations manager, hopes to tap a new cask offering weekly. "We'll add spices to them or an extra dry hop," Mike says of the cask beers. "It's another way to experiment and have fun. And when it's out, it'll be out for the week."

Lineage is owned and operated by two Clintonville couples: Jessica and Mike Byrne and Carey Hall and Jessica Page. Mike and Hall developed several of Lineage's recipes as home brewers, and Mike later honed his craft as head brewer for three years at Buckeye Lake Brewery.

"We will probably do some keg distribution, but that isn't the focus here," Jessica says. "We don't have a big production-distribution model, and we want to always change the beers we're offering. We will have flagship beers eventually, but we want customers to dictate that."

Lineage's hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday; 2 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday; and 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
