If brunch at a radio station bar gives you pause, hear me out. Music fan or not, this brunch is worth your attention.

Dubbing itself "a bar with a radio problem," the Big Room Bar has taken shape in the Big Room, the in-house concert venue of radio station CD102.5. Knowing that the kitchen is run by some of the crew behind the former Betty's and Surly Girl Saloon, it all makes sense. Big Room Bar's menu echoes the quirky comfort food of the now-gone Short North staples.

What can you expect? A brunch that is fun, filling and surprisingly creative. The digs are simple but spacious, there's live music on Sundays and dishes are named after bands or radio station terms.

The Green Day ($10), for instance, is an omelet filled with a bright spinach pesto. The Morning Show ($8) is your entry-level eggs, potato and meat breakfast.

We opted first for the Tegan & Sara ($10) built on rösti, a type of small Swiss potato pancake, presumably a nod to the building's heritage as the Swiss Chalet Party House. The flavorful dish pairs two rösti, each topped with a fried egg, local Falter's bacon and a rich gouda cheese sauce.

The generously portioned Hash Pipe ($11) was one of my favorites. It's a savory mix of tender braised roast beef, caramelized onions and roasted potatoes, and is served with eggs and toast.

Omelet fans should gravitate toward the Stranger in the Alps ($11), stuffed with the same onions and potatoes as the Hash Pipe, then sweetened with a bourbon apple compote, and supplemented by rösti and toast.

Sweet breakfasts are represented, too, like chocolate custard French toast, buttermilk pancakes and yogurt with fruit.

Pair this brunch with a zesty Bloody Mary ($6) or two, plus a healthy roster of beer ($6-7) – I enjoyed a pint of Great Lakes' Lake Erie Monster imperial IPA – and you've got plenty of reasons to return. The Big Room will soon add a liquor license, so expect an expanded cocktail list to join the brunch line-up.
