Crowley plans to open The Lox Bagel Shop this October in the Short North.
After almost six years as a partner at Northstar Café, Kevin Crowley is prepping to open The Lox Bagel Shop this fall in the Short North. The Culinary Institute of America grad plans to serve up handmade bagels plus seasonal house-smoked meats and fish. Crowley calls himself a “restaurant lifer” and will travel just to try new foods. We asked him about his favorite places in Columbus.
Special Occasion: The Top Steak House. “My wife and I celebrate our anniversary there. We'll get martinis to start, a couple of big ol' steaks and some wine. The service at the bartop is some of the best in town.”
Carryout: Paulie Gee's. “We've been going there since they opened. I think they have the best pizza in the city.”
Brewery: Seventh Son Brewing Co. “The beers are the most well-made and consistent beers in the city. We'll walk the baby and the dog up there and hang out on the patio pretty regularly.”
Coffee Shop: Fox in the Snow Café. “[Owners] Jeff [Excell] and Lauren [Culley] have been a great sounding board for us as we get our business off the ground. They do such a good job with all the drinks that they pour.”
Japanese: Akai Hana. “We'll load up on way too much sushi. I'll go with whatever special sushi they have and always finish with some uni for dessert. It's not dessert, but it is for me.”
