BrewDog fans can soon sleep where they drink. The DogHouse, BrewDog USA’s much-publicized craft beer hotel, opens Monday, Aug. 27. The new 32-room hotel is located next to the Scottish brewery’s U.S. headquarters in Canal Winchester. The hotel’s amenities include a tap in every room featuring BrewDog’s Punk IPA; a mini-bar in the shower; and even a luxury suite boasting, wait for it, an IPA-filled hot tub.
Restaurateur Megan Ada is bringing a new fast-casual ramen and sushi concept to the Short North. Ada, who also owns Asterisk Supper Club and Sunny Street Café Westerville, plans to open Ampersand Asian Supper Club inside the new Brunner Building at 940 N. High St. by the end of 2018. The 50-seat, 2,000-square-foot eatery will feature stuffed bookshelves, in keeping with the theme at its sister restaurant, Asterisk. Ampersand will also feature a full sake bar, sake-based cocktails, Japanese whiskeys and beers.
OH Pizza & Brew owner Luke Edwards says his pizzeria at the corner of Chestnut and Third Streets will soon relocate closer to the heart of Downtown. The casual pizzeria will make a fresh start at 88 E. Broad St., most recently home to Stack’d. Edwards says he was unable to reach an agreement with his current landlord, and the restaurant has experienced a string of bad luck at the 250 N. 3rd St. location, including remodeling delays and a recent armed robbery.
The 3rd Annual Columbus VegFest takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday at Whetstone Community Center, 3923 N. High St. The free event seeks to promote the benefits of a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle through a variety of guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, food trucks, author signings, children’s activities and more.
The Worthington-based co-working outfit COhatch announced it is teaming up with Brothers Drake Meadery on its new Polaris location, The Pub, expected to open this winter. Brothers Drake, known for its honey-based wines and Short North bar/music venue, will operate The Pub’s bar and entertainment venue and produce meads on-site. The Polaris location will be the second for Brothers Drake and the fifth for COhatch.
Sammy’s on 5th has replaced the Toledo-based burger spot Bar 145 at 955 W. Fifth Ave. in the Fifth by Northwest neighborhood.
Dine Originals Columbus has reversed plans to discontinue its discount restaurant certificate program after an outcry from customers. The organization, which works to support locally owned restaurants, plans to continue the quarterly gift certificate sale for now. Sign up to receive notifications at dineoriginalscolumbus.com.
