Plan ahead and show up early.

What better way to welcome the new year than with a hearty brunch in the company of good friends and family? While Jan. 1 is a day off for many Columbus restaurants, a select few open their doors to help diners start the year on the right culinary foot. Kick off 2019 in mouthwatering fashion with brunch at one of these popular spots.

The Table
21 E. Fifth Ave.
Resolving to eat more responsibly in 2019? The Table can help with that. The farm-to-table eatery cooks seasonal fare from scratch, enjoys direct relationships with local farmers and is nearly a zero-waste operation. The brunch menu, served on New Year’s Day, incorporates regional and global flavors, like the custard-y cinnamon brioche French toast with seasonal compote or the akoori—spicy Indian scrambled eggs on toast.

The Guild House
624 N. High St.
The Guild House is the only Cameron Mitchell outpost open on New Year’s Day. Attached to the The Joseph Hotel, the elegant but approachable destination opens early, serving hot coffee, pastries and fresh-squeezed juices, plus a full menu that includes the signature smoked chicken hash, decadent butter-poached lobster and eggs and rich, earthy truffled eggs on potato pancakes with mushrooms.

Tasi Café
680 N. Pearl St.
Tasi Café is open every day of the year except Christmas and Thanksgiving. The staff will welcome guests bright and early on New Year’s Day at 7 a.m., serving hot coffee, freshly made croissants and a creative breakfast menu. Cozy up at the Short North café for buttermilk pancakes, smoked salmon Benedict or poached eggs on black bean cakes.

Two-One Restaurant
409 Altair Parkway, Westerville
The Two-One Restaurant pays homage to Westerville’s role in starting Prohibition by taking its name from the 21st Amendment. It’s located on the bottom floor of the new Renaissance hotel, and opens for New Year’s Day breakfast from 6:30 to 11 a.m. The spacious and modern digs are the place to enjoy a creative menu like a wagyu brisket Benedict or johnnycakes with grilled Ohio corn and blueberry jam.

Gallerie Bar & Bistro
401 N. High St.
You may have noticed a theme by now: hotel restaurants are reliable places for New Year’s Day brunch. The Hilton Downtown’s in-house restaurant, Gallerie Bar & Bistro, opens at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast. You don’t have to be a guest in the hotel to enjoy chef Bill Glover’s sophisticated but rustic menu, which features everything from spicy chorizo hash to chicken and waffles to crème brûlée French toast.

Valter’s at the Maennerchor
976 S. High St.
Cozy up at Valter’s pub, which shares space with the headquarters for the local German men’s singing chorus. Valter Veliu and his team feature the traditional New Year’s Day pork and sauerkraut, but they serve a full brunch that day, too. Begin your year with a mimosa or a liter of German lager while you feast on hearty breakfast skillets, corned beef hash and the Egg in a Bell Breakfast, with eggs cooked inside slices of colorful bell peppers.
