Where service industry insiders like to eat and drink

Mediterranean food has been a lifelong passion for Nasir Latif, co-owner of Clintonville’s Lávash Café (2985 N. High St.). For 40 years, he’s been serving up hummus and falafel, with his most recent endeavors being Firdous Express in the North Market (which he sold in the early 2000s) and Lávash, which opened in 2008. When he’s not greeting guests, he’s helping to cultivate a miniature herb and vegetable garden next to the café. We asked the restaurant veteran, who eats anything but pork, where we’re most likely to find him around town.

Breakfast: First Watch. “I like their omelet, and sometimes I get the Belgian waffle.”

Special Occasion: Akai Hana. “I like the freshness of their food and the people who run it. They have good sushi, too.”

Carryout: “Hunan Lion has good food. I prefer the seafood combo or Hunan shrimp.”

Comfort Food: “Northstar is my go-to. I like the healthy food and the cleanliness. And it’s convenient. I usually order one of their salads or the Monday fish sandwich.”

Fine Dining: “I go to Hyde Park [Prime Steakhouse] in Upper Arlington. The New York strip is my favorite.”
