The Indian restaurant and bar Rooh is set to open Thursday, Nov. 14, at 685 N. High St. in the Short North. The concept is known for its Ayurveda-inspired cocktails and for placing a modern spin on traditional Indian cuisine. Bhavesh Kishinchand, and his father, Ashok, are the local partners in Rooh, which got its start in San Francisco and has two other locations in Chicago and New Delhi, India. The Short North restaurant’s permanent chef will be Swapan Das, who brings experience working as executive sous chef at Rooh San Francisco.
Yellow Brick Pizza announced today that it will expand to the River & Rich development in Franklinton next spring. The new pizzeria will occupy 2,900 square feet on the corner of Rich and Lucas streets. This will be Yellow Brick’s third location, including the original in Olde Town East and a second in Victorian Village. The anticipated menu includes New York-style and Chicago deep-dish pizzas, salads, calzones, appetizers and a healthy variety of craft beers.
A new Ethiopian restaurant called Nile Vegan opened recently at 1479 Worthington St., just north of The Bottle Shop in the University District. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The 116-room Moxy Columbus Short North hotel opened this week at 800 N. High St., which means the neighborhood has a new lobby bar to check out. (Guests actually check in at the large bar and receive a complimentary cocktail.) The hotel’s health-conscious, Cleveland-based restaurant, TownHall, is targeting a mid-January debut. Following that will be TownHall’s 5,000-square-foot rooftop bar/lounge, named Republic.
Blend Café + Bakery is now open at Columbus State Community College’s new Mitchell Hall, located at 250 Cleveland Ave. Offering sandwiches, soups, pastries and more, the cafe is almost entirely run by students. The Mid-Ohio Market, a collaboration between CSCC and the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, also opened earlier this month at 400 Grove St. The market works to combat food insecurity among local residents and students who have household incomes at less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or less than $25,000 for an individual.
A new pop-up called The Jerk Joint is serving Caribbean-inspired small plates and sandwiches at Two Truths cocktail bar (1205 N. High St.) from 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. An official grand opening takes place Saturday, Nov. 2, featuring Restart Reggae.
As Columbus CEO reported in its November cover story, Watershed Distillery co-founder Dave Rigo has sold his ownership interest in the distillery and become the CEO of Saddleberk, a heritage pork venture founded by his Watershed co-founder Greg Lehman, along with Ed Hardin and John Sommers. Some clients carrying Saddleberk’s Berkshire pork include Kroger and area restaurants such as Watershed Kitchen & Bar, M at Miranova and The Guild House.
There’s been a slew of new fall menu releases lately. At The Market Italian Village, executive chef Tyler Minnis and his twin brother, beverage director Collin Minnis, have launched new brunch, dinner and cocktail menus. Highlights include the Flannel Shirt cocktail, the Sweet n’ Sour Squash and much more. In addition, Watershed Kitchen & Bar released its newest fall/winter cocktail menu, titled Home & Away: A Travel Leisure Cocktail Menu and featuring hand-drawn illustrations by Greg Davis. Finally, chef David Belknap and the beverage team at Vaso have released new cocktail and food menus at the rooftop spot in Dublin.
The new Short North spot SeeSaw recently added brunch to its lineup from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant and bar is the work of James Beard Award-winning chef Jonathon Sawyer and Forward Hospitality Group.
The Royal Fern, a neighborhood bar and grill-themed pop up from the creative minds of Josh Gandee and Chris Manis (aka Historic Revelry LLC), will be in action from 8 p.m. to midnight tonight, at Antiques on High (714 S. High St.). For this Halloween event, the bartenders will be mixing up throwback cocktails such as the Tequila Sunrise a la TGI Fridays or Max & Erma’s.
A newcomer to the Columbus food scene, Tacos Rudos, is holding a pop-up dinner at Bonifacio (1577 King Ave.) on Monday, Nov. 4. Check out the details here. The new taqueria will be previewing its tacos al pastor, fish tacos and more. Tacos Rudos and Bonifacio will be joining Budd Dairy Food Hall in Italian Village next year.
