How Ohio is helping affected businesses:

Gov. DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted announced programs aimed at assisting small business owners and employees affected by Ohio’s bar and restaurant closures. They include a one-time liquor buyback to support bars and restaurants (many of which were stocking up for St. Patrick’s Day), enhanced unemployment aid for Ohioans and low-interest loans for small businesses and nonprofit organizations.

How you can help support restaurants, bars and others in our community:

Several foodservice industry veterans have launched a new nonprofit venture called Service! Relief for Hospitality Workers, which seeks to feed unemployed workers in the industry and families in Franklin County. Service! is a collaboration between The Table’s Sangeeta Lakhani and Muse Hospitality’s Matthew Heaggans, Letha Pugh, Catie Randazzo and Reed Woogerd. (Preston’s: A Burger Joint and Ambrose and Eve are part of the Muse restaurant group.) The venture’s goal is to provide 2,000 meals a week for displaced workers. Restaurants can add their takeout menus and other offerings to this Facebook group. A new website has been created that makes it easy to purchase restaurant gift cards online. Visit to purchase gift cards or to add a restaurant. Several local restaurateurs have started a petition called "Independent Restaurant Owners in Ohio,” asking the state for various forms of relief for restaurant workers. You can read more here.

Bars and bartenders will be hit particularly hard during this crisis. The US Bartender’s Guild has set up a COVID-19 Relief Campaign meant to bolster its Bartender Emergency Assistance Program. Donate here.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Hot Chicken Takeover, Homage and other local businesses have launched a campaign called “We Are All in This Together” that seeks to feed 20,000 at-risk people during the COVId-19 pandemic. Learn more here.
