CMR and its sister business Rusty Bucket have temporarily closed most restaurant locations, with some remaining open for carryout.
Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, one of the city’s most prominent restaurant groups, announced today that “the vast majority” of its associates, about 4,500 people, have been furloughed amid the coronavirus crisis. An Associate Relief Fund has been established for CMR staff members. The company has also reduced the number of locations offering carryout. Currently, Cap City Dublin and Cap City Grandview remain open for carryout from noon to 8 p.m.; Cap City Gahanna is open from 4 to 8 p.m. CMR operates 15 restaurant concepts in Central Ohio, with more locations around the country.

“This is, without a doubt, one of the most incredibly difficult times Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) has ever faced. Our hearts are with each one of our associates impacted by COVID-19, and with everyone across the U.S. and in our hometown of Columbus, Ohio. While our Cap City locations remain open one last day, at the close of business tonight, we will temporarily cease all operations. The vast majority of our associates, approximately 4,500 people, now have been furloughed, and we fervently hope they will return to CMR when this crisis is over.
“Our incredible associates are our CMR family, and we are heartbroken. With them, we’ve celebrated new lives and mourned losses, we’ve laughed and cried, and we’ve worked together to serve our guests and support each other. We are committed to helping them through this unprecedented time.
“An Associate Relief Fund has been established, to which 100 percent of online gift card sales, from March 19-31, 2020, will be donated. The fund, which also includes personal contributions from the CMR leadership team, will be divided evenly among the company’s 4,500 associates. Each associate will receive a check in April, helping them put food on the table for their families.
“We urge CMR Raving Fans to consider purchasing gifts cards to help support this effort - https://www.cameronmitchellgiftcards.com/. Together, we can help our devastated restaurant community.”
In addition, about 1,300 staffers at Rusty Bucket Restaurant & Tavern, CMR’s sister business, have been furloughed, and an assistance fund has been created. All Rusty Bucket locations have been shuttered, with the exception of a few select locations, which will continue to offer a limited carryout menu through the end of the day.
