How one business is taking the hassle out of a furry attendant on your big day.
Our current issue has a photo story on pets and other critters at your wedding, which got us thinking … how does one manage a four-legged guest? Having your pup as your ring-bearer is adorable, sure, but there are so many extra details to consider: Who will make sure Fido makes it down the aisle? How can you make sure there are no accidents inside your venue? And just where will he go when his duties are done, but the party is set to continue?
Shannon Anello has the answers to all of these questions, and more.
Anello started Furball Fitness Dog Walking & Pet Care in 2015 as a dog-walking and -sitting service, but realized right away that she could take things a step further and offer wedding packages, too.
“It’s a service that I would have enjoyed having—that was the hard part when my husband and I got married in 2007,” she says, lamenting that she had to board her beloved pups during her wedding weekend.
Wedding services are charged by the hour and can include tasks like pickup/drop-off of your dog to the ceremony site and home; walking or carrying him down the aisle; babysitting while you get ready or at the reception; corralling during photo sessions and more.
“I’ve had a lot of clients actually tell me, it’s because they can tell, when we do the meet-and-greet, they can tell that my heart’s in it and that I love what I do, and that I’m passionate about it. I’m not just going through the motions,” Anello explains. “My husband and I, we can’t have kids …our dogs are our babies.”
Furball Fitness has other services, including grooming (to make sure your pooch is pristine before the ceremony, natch), overnight babysitting (for the honeymoon) and more. Recurring services like dog walking and yard clean-up currently are limited to the east side of Central Ohio—Blacklick, Gahanna, New Albany, Reynoldsburg, Pataskala and Westerville—but Anello hopes to continue expanding west to offer more services. A doggie day-care facility also is in the works.
