Although he's dabbled as a server, Alex Burch prefers his domain behind the bar.
He's worked at Cosecha Cocina since opening day and says that there's a craft to bartending and providing exceptional service. The Olde Towne East resident (who previously worked at Oddfellows Liquor Bar) has recently become vegetarian, so restaurants with plant-based menus take priority. “It started with an ethical argument,” he says of his decision, “and the timing was right. I was like ‘Aww, crap. Now I'm vegetarian.'” Here are a few of his favorites around town.
Carryout: “The Woodhouse Vegan Pop-Up at Oddfellows. They have phenomenal plant-based specials. I like the grilled cheese and the pretzel bites.”
Indian: “Aab [India] is my favorite. It's very high quality. I used to live in Northern Kentucky, and they owned a restaurant that was half a mile from my house. I ate there all the time. When I moved to Columbus, Aab was a little taste of heaven while I got settled into the city.”
Special Occasion: “For birthdays and anniversaries, my sister and I go to Dirty Frank's. They have great people there, and they definitely have good veggie dogs, too. Every time I go, I have to get the Classy Lady.”
Vegetarian: “Eden Burger. It's a 100 percent plant-based restaurant. I love the Western Burger with pickle chips. My whole family is from the Deep South, so touches like the fried pickles are like growing up for me.”
