With a name like BLunch, it's easy to dismiss this as another trendy take on the breakfast/lunch combination. But give it a chance. The design, décor and menu demonstrate that more thought and care were put into developing this new Clintonville café than its name implies. First, BLunch offers breakfast until mid-afternoon in a city devoid of creative breakfasts (aside from long-running and much-loved little neighborhood diners). Second, the simple but colorful design is easy to love, with touches of bright yellow and aquamarine standing out against white backgrounds. Owners Jane and Jeff White also enlisted Columbus artists Stephanie Rond and Adam Hernandez to create murals on the walls; the work seamlessly blends their differing styles to create a unique backdrop for dining. And finally, the breakfast-heavy menu (there are lunch items, too) features good variety that's still easy to navigate, from omelets to Benedicts to pancakes. The dishes are thoughtfully crafted and plated, like sweet potato pancakes with toasted marshmallows, huevos rancheros on fried masa and a corned beef Benedict on toasted brioche. Special offerings allow guests to combine half orders of different eggs Benedicts or to create flights of pancakes.
Order Up: Breakfast burrito
It illustrates that BLunch does the classics very well. The burrito is chock-full of eggs, chorizo, potatoes, black beans, cheese and salsa.
