Early in college, Micael Habte knew he'd go into the coffee business.
Two years after graduation, he opened Upper Cup Coffee Co., selling wholesale coffee beans to restaurants. Now, the Olde Towne East resident operates two coffee shops (in OTE and Gahanna) and provides coffee to places like The Walrus and Lincoln Café. We asked where he likes to eat and drink.
Carryout: Zara Restaurant. “They're an Eritrean restaurant on the East Side. They have healthy vegan options and perfectly spiced lamb. They have huge portions, so it's like two meals.”
Breakfast: SuperChef's Breakfast & More. “They have a creative menu. They come up with some really cool concoctions like The Hulk (a green waffle breakfast sandwich). Their [red] velvet pancakes are awesome.”
Special Occasion: J. Alexander's. “Their New York strip is my ‘treat myself' meal. And their carrot cake is really good.”
Guilty Pleasure: Auddino's Italian Bakery. “The fried croissants dipped in glaze get me every time. I use their bread for the shops, and whenever I'm there, I get two or three. Twice a week I'm eating those things.”
Dive Bar: Olde Towne Tavern. “Their kitchen is open late, and they pour heavy.”
