Each week, we feature a couple from our latest issue.
Say hello to the first couple from the spring/summer 2019 issue to be featured on the Bustled blog! Jacqueline and Corbin Ricker met when Jacqueline and her friends decided to catch Red, White and Boom from the top of the LeVeque Tower’s parking garage back in 2010. A chance meeting between her group of friends and Corbin’s led to new friendships, though they eventually fell out of touch.
“I remember receiving the first text message from Corbin in October 2013,” Jacqueline recalls. They met at Smith & Wollensky, though Jacqueline admits she “friendzoned” Corbin a bit. “I did not think once about giving him a chance,” she says. “Corbin is an extremely persistent man; I remember him falling in love with me before I even had that thought in my mind. … It was not until the following year, in January, that I truly fell in love with Corbin. I saw that our friendship was slowly turning into our love story. It was a feeling I had never experienced before, and from that moment, I knew it was the beginning of forever.”
Two years later, Corbin, Jacqueline and their families went out to Christmas dinner in what had become a family tradition. At none other than Smith & Wollensky, Corbin arranged for the waiter to bring out a plate at dessert that had “Will you marry me?” written on it.
“I remember being so off-guard,” Jacqueline recalls. “In all the excitement, there was something so calming about the moment, and it was that I was going to be spending the rest of my life with this man by my side.”
Family played a big part in their wedding day, too. Jacqueline wore her grandmother’s wedding band as her “something old,” and Corbin opted to use his father’s wedding band as his own. The couple honored Corbin’s late mother as well, by lighting a special candle for her during their unity candle ceremony.
