Each week, we feature a couple from our latest issue.
Star Wars, Zelda and Super Smash Bros. all sound like a cozy night in, but for Katelyn and Daniel Beale, it also made for a fun and romantic wedding. “Daniel and I met at Worthington Christian High School during our freshman year,” says Katelyn. She left after that year and attended Olentangy Orange High School, but the pair reconnected at a cookout hosted by Daniel’s sister, with whom Katelyn was close.
After dating for three years, Daniel surprised Katelyn with a proposal on Nov. 5, 2017. “We had talked about the proposal happening with just the two of us, but he surprised me and proposed in front of the Ohio Theatre,” says Katelyn. They were seeing “The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddess”—complete with Katelyn in costume. For all the fuss people make about having a photographer for the proposal, Katelyn and Daniel got their proposal photo for free from a nearby police officer.
Despite the winter and Christmas theme of the wedding, this couple of self-described nerds sprinkled Easter egg tributes to their favorite movies and video games throughout their big day.
“Our [cake] topper was in a Star Wars font, and our champagne glasses had a symbol from Legend of Zelda,” says Katelyn, who made her own cake thanks to her experience as a baker/decorator at The Suisse Shop Bakery. They also had their bridal party announced as players in a game of super Smash Bros.
One of her favorite memories of the day came early on: “From the start of the day, [it] had to be when I saw my grandma and her reaction,” she says. “Style & Story was able to capture the moment of overwhelming emotion and love.”
