Each week, we feature a couple from our latest issue.
“God clearly had been writing [our] story long before Chad and I were even born,” muses Noelle Barson. She and Chad first met while he was still playing for the Columbus Crew (Chad has since retired, after four years with the Crew and a season each with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and FC Linköping City in Sweden). Their initial meeting came when Chad spoke at an OSU Athletes in Action meeting, where Noelle was in attendance, and reconnected a year and a half later on a plane, when the pair realized their families knew each other.
Soon after, the pair went on their first date, began attending Rock City Church together and “discovered even more family connections,” Noelle says.
Many moments of their wedding day stand out in Noelle’s memory, but chief among them, she says, is their “first touch”—a no-look first look during which they held hands and exchanged letters, but upheld the tradition of not seeing each other before the ceremony.
Also enjoyable, she adds, was “having the chance to sit back and see loved ones enjoy a day that had so much thought and planning put into it.”
