Local wedding vendors you should know

First opened more than 70 years ago, Diamond Cellar now is one of the largest independent jewelry stores in the country. The family-owned business has two stores in Central Ohio: one at Easton and a flagship on Sawmill Road in Dublin. We turned to marketing coordinator Katie Johnson for more information on the company.

What should people know about Diamond Cellar?

Since 1947, we have served our customers with honesty, integrity and value. We represent the finest jewelry and watch brands available in the world today! Our roots are in the goldsmith trade, and it’s an area of the business we have steadily grown. We manufacture much of our own jewelry right here in our store, using the best materials and craftsmanship. From setting an engagement diamond to a full-blown custom design, your jewelry never has to leave our store.

How did Diamond Cellar get its start?

We didn’t start as a retail jeweler. The original shop on North High Street, above Kresge’s Five and Dime, was called Robert W. Johnson Inc. Our founder, Robert Johnson, did jewelry repairs and alterations for retailers that didn’t have their own craftspeople. Our name came from our expansion and move in the 1960s to a location beneath the Franklin Federal Savings and Loans building. This location inspired the name “Diamond Cellar,” as it was truly the basement of a bank. Our first retail venture opened in 1975 and was directed by Robert’s son, Andy Johnson, who still serves as CEO of Diamond Cellar Holdings today.

What sets you apart from other independent jewelers?

Our passion has been serving our customers by ensuring you get a personalized experience each time you walk through our doors. Whether it’s in sales, custom design or repair, you’ll deal with some of the most talented and highly trained people in the country. We guide you step by step through the process of buying a piece of jewelry to ensure you get exactly what you want.

Do you have any sister stores?

Store 5a, our pre-owned luxury sister store, opened in the Short North in 2015, with a second location opening not long after at Easton. They provide a safe, simple way for customers to buy and sell luxury items in an engaging, fun environment. Store 5a was founded by Jesse Johnson, son of our CEO Andy Johnson.
