Real newlyweds give wedding planning tips based on their experience.

The Webers’ wedding took place on May 11, 2019, at Jeffrey Mansion.

If you could do anything about your wedding differently, what would you change and why?

Jaime: I would have made a guest list before selecting a venue. We ended up not inviting as many guests as we would have liked to because our venue was on the smaller side.

Chance: Get a videographer.

What are you happy you spent money on?

C: Good-quality DJ and photographer.

J: Happy we had a great photographer, DJ and day-of coordinator.

What do you think you could have done without?

C: Instant camera for guests.

J: We had a Polaroid guest book that didn't turn out very well.

What was your biggest surprise when planning your wedding?

J: How much planning goes into a wedding.

What do you wish you’d known before you started planning?

C: How much time it takes and how much everything costs.

Did you experience any wedding-day snafus?

C: Officiant forgot my nicknames, I just whispered in his ear and we rolled with it.

J: We had three individual wedding cakes and the largest one collapsed. Luckily, our caterers were able to slice up and salvage the cake, and we still got to display two of the cakes.

Did you and your fiancé get into any silly arguments?

J: We bickered a little—nothing really that I can recall.

C: We argued about what hotel to have the guests stay at considering the cost for our guests. We ended up saying, “This is our day; if they want to stay somewhere cheaper, they can.”

Any dress-shopping advice?

J: Don't let anyone convince you to get anything you wouldn't feel beautiful in. Trust your gut.

What about menswear?

C: Take your groomsmen with you for advice/help.

Do you have any general advice for couples currently planning their weddings?

C: Start planning earlier than you think you need to.

J: Have fun with it. You only get to plan it once.

Do you have any general marriage advice, as a newlywed?

C: Live together before you get married.

J: Don't forget to check in with each other. You’re a team now!
