Short North Trolley took first place in the Transportation category.

Short North Trolley, winner for transportation in the Best of Columbus Weddings poll, offers couples something more unique than the usual limo or van to transport their wedding party and guests. Along with the vintage-inspired feel that trolleys offer, they also fit more people than limos or vans can. Riders can bring their own booze in coolers, and when the weather is nice, the trolley’s windows can open to let in a breeze. “It’s a unique alternative, and it’s certainly in high demand,” says Tom O’Brien, one of Short North Trolley’s owners.

When the company started three years ago, though, it wasn’t meant to be an event transportation business. O’Brien explains that the company was inspired by the “party trolleys” in Chicago that drive passengers around to different bars. After making a profile on The Knot and advertising their ability to do private events, they began booking weddings almost immediately. Eventually, private events became the majority of their business.

In the coming weeks, Short North Trolley will be undergoing some changes as it merges with Columbus Trolley Co., which offers similar services. O’Brien says that the owners of Short North Trolley and Columbus Trolley decided the merge was the best move in order to combine their efforts and better serve the local market. He says that the two companies are already working together and should be formally merged this summer. O’Brien says that decisions on the branding and name of the company after the merge haven't yet been decided.
