The top national prize for city magazines comes home to Central Ohio.

On the evening of June 4, Columbus Monthly won the award for General Excellence in our circulation category at the national City and Regional Magazine Association conference in New Orleans. This is our first win for General Excellence, following a top-five finish last year. Other finalists in the category for circulation of less than 30,000 were Cleveland Magazine, Palm Springs Life, Sonoma Magazine and San Antonio Magazine.

The award is based on an entry of three complete issues from 2017, two of which must be from consecutive months. Columbus Monthly’s entry consisted of our March Spring Fashion issue, our November 10 Best Restaurants issue and the December issue, which featured the “Money, Power, Egos” cover story on turmoil at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Entries in all divisions were judged by more than 100 journalism professionals, and the contest was coordinated by the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism on behalf of CRMA.

In an Instagram post following the award presentation, editor Eric Lyttle wrote, "So proud! Columbus Monthly named Best City Magazine in the country in our circulation division last night, capping an amazing few days in New Orleans. It's such a treat to work every day with so many smart, creative, thoughtful, passionate and really nice people."

A big thank you to our readers for continuing to support the work we do covering Columbus.
