Thomas A. Roussell

Thomas A. Roussell, age 82, of Assonet, died, July 28, 2011 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia S. (McCoomb) Roussell for the past 55 years.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Thomas J. and Julia (Duchemin) Roussell, he had been a lifelong area resident. A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1947, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan.  He worked as a Lineman, Cable Splicer, and Switchman for the former Nynex and New England Telephone and Telegraph.

He loved music, dancing, the ocean, skiing, wood working, cooking, and most of all spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife seven children; Nancy Smith and her husband Jeff of Fairhaven, Thomas A. Roussell Jr. and his wife Diane of Norton, Kim Cobourn and her husband Chris of Rockport, ME, Betsey Cole and her husband Bruce of Middleboro, Joan Tracey and her husband Michael of Fairhaven, John “Jack” Roussell and his wife Terri of Rochester, and Donna Romero of Assonet, one brother; Roger Roussell of Tiverton, one sister; Lucille Hadley of Fall River, fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Constance Keller.

Funeral Service Friday, August 5, 2011 at 8:30 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at ROSE E. SULLIVAN 866 County Street, Somerset followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Bernard’s Church 30 South Main Street Assonet. Visiting hours Thursday 4-7 PM. Antone V. Arruda

Antone V. “Tony Barba” Arruda, age 78 of Fall River and formerly of Somerset, passed away Aug. 1, 2011 at home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Medeiros) Arruda and the son of the late Joseph V. & Francelina S. (Cabral) Arruda. Prior to retiring, Antone worked as a Laborer Foreman for the Laborers’ Union Local 610 for 40 years. He was a parishioner of Espirito Santo Church, a former Vice President & on the Board of Directors of the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 610, a former Vice President of St. Michaels Club, and he was a soccer player for the Fall River Sports Soccer Club.

Antone was the father of Mark Anthony Arruda & his wife Mary Anna of Fall River and Mary Ann Branin & her husband Roger of Westport; the brother of Joseph V. Arruda of Somerset and Francelina Sousa of Fall River; the grandfather of Kate M. Holbrook & her husband Jeremiah “Jamie” of Fall River; and the uncle of several nieces & nephews. Antone was predeceased by his siblings, Alfred Arruda, Mary Travis, Alice Arruda, Betty Jennings, & Evelyn Carvalho.

His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on FRIDAY at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Espirito Santo Church, Alden St. at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours THURSDAY 4-8 P.M. William A. Carroll

William A. Carroll of Fall River, MA passed away Monday, August 1, 2011 in the Adam’s House. He was the husband of the late Alice (Middleton) Carroll.

Born in Providence, RI, a son of the late Charles V. and Winifred (Martin) Carroll, he grew up in Fall River and lived in Maryland, Georgia, and North Carolina for several years before coming back to the area several years ago.

Mr. Carroll was a graduated of BMC Durfee High School in Fall River. He was a United States Army Veteran during World War II and was stationed in Switzerland.   He later received his Bachelors Degree from Brown University in 1948, his Master’s Degree in 1950 and PhD in 1963 from Georgetown University. He later received a degree Of the Middle Temple Barrister at Law in 1980 in London, England. Mr. Carroll was a Professor of Political Science at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA from 1958 to 1962, Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD from 1963 to 1968, Guilford College in Greensboro, NC from 1968 to 1993 and a Barrister at Law of the Middle Temple in London, England, where he had Door tenancy from the summers of 1985 to 2000. He was also published in “Natural Law and Freedom of Communication Under the Fourteenth Amendment” in the Notre Dame Lawyer in December of 1966, “The Constitution, the Supreme Court, and Religion” in the American Political Science Review in September of 1967 and together with Norman B. Smith, he wrote American Constitutional Rights: Cases, Documents and Commentary in 1991 . 

Mr. Carroll is survived by his sister Nancy Carroll of Fall River and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Charles V. Carroll.

His funeral will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 9am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his funeral mass at 10am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River.  Burial will take place at a later date in Green Hill Cemetery, Greensboro, NC.  Visiting hours Thursday from 5 to 7pm. Joseph J. Pimental

Joseph J. Pimental, 82, of Dartmouth died Friday, July 29, 2001 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the former husband of Priscilla Wood.

Born in Fall River, he was son of the late James and Francisca S. (Duarte) Pimental.  Mr. Pimental was a self-employed mason and a member of the International Bricklayers Union Local 3.  He enjoyed playing tennis.

Survivors include 2 sons: Steven Pimental of Westport and Jason Pimental of New Bedford; 2 daughters: Robin Pimental of Milford, MA and Alyson Pimental of Dartmouth; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph T. Wyman

Joseph T. Wyman, age 87, of Fall River passed away July 31, 2011 in the Golden Living Center in Taunton. He was the husband of Evelyn (Correia) Wyman.

Born in Fall River, the son of the late Leroy and Helen (Boylan) Wyman, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School. He was employed for many years with Plymouth Rubber in Canton and Firestone Tire and Rubber in Fall River and was a former member of the Corky Row Club.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his step daughter Evelyn Petit and her husband Paul of Fall River; four step grandchildren Brian, Darryl, Sean and Kris Petit; several great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by several brothers.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 8:30am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his funeral mass at 10am in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St., Fall River. Marjorie Parmenter

Marjorie Sampson Parmenter, 57, passed away April 6, 2011 after a prolonged illness. Wife of Mark. Devoted mother of Abbie. Daughter of the late Mary L. and Henry J. Sampson. Survived by sisters: Dr. Laurie McCreery and her husband R. Douglas and April Sampson and her brothers: Stephen J. and his wife Monique and H. Jeffrey and his wife Janet. A longtime resident of Long Key, FL, she worked as the Town Clerk for the City of Layton. She attended Salve Regina College and was a graduate of S.M.U. Antone S. Domingos

Antone S. Domingos “Dingo”, 76, of Fall River, passed away, July 9, 2011, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of 58 years to “his Daisy” Joan Domingos. Born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel “Curly” and Palmira Domingos. He was a lifelong self-employed carpenter. Tony was the father of Catherine Domingos (husband-Joseph Barbosa), Steven (wife-Julie) and Bruce Domingos (fiancee-Gloria Souza) all of Fall River, Antone Domingos, Jr. (wife-Claire) of Hampton, VA and the late Manuel Domingos; brother of Joseph Domingos of Swansea and the late Jimmy Domingos; grandfather of Joseph and Brian Barbosa and Freddy Rosa. He also leaves granddaughters, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His cremation was private. His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 6, at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Bedford St. at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice, 502 Bedford St., Fall River 02720.

Anne M. Lewis

Anne M. Lewis (Millie) passed away July 31, 2011 she was 92 years old. She previously resided on Thomas Street Fall River and Highland Ave in Tiverton RI. She worked for many years as the Head Nurse of the maternity ward at the former Truesdale Hospital, Fall River. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anne M. Lewis. She was the aunt of the late Dorothy and George Ratcliffe. Survived by Marthe A. Ratcliffe as well as Anne Lewis’s great nieces and nephews: Anne and her husband Robert, Diane Maynard and her husband Stephen, Beatrice Russo and her husband John, Joseph Ratcliffe and his wife Anna and Andrew Ratcliffe and his wife Trudy.  She is also survived by ten great, great nieces and nephews and one great, great, great nephew.

The funeral mass will be held on August 5, 2011 at Catholic Memorial Home on 2446 Highland Ave. in Fall River, MA at 9:30 a.m. followed by the burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
