Since opening this summer in the former Little Brother's space, Liquid has settled into its own as a cafe by day and dance club by night.
The space has been divided into two rooms, and it attracts a mixed crowd, said Becky Harrison, a bartender at the Short North spot. After moving to Columbus from Youngstown, Harrison picked up a job at BMW Financial Services and worked for the Franklin Park Conservatory before joining the weekend staff at Liquid.
And she'll be performing at the nightclub with her drag troupe, the Royal Renegades, on Dec. 12. "I like entertaining anyway, so bartending is kind of just like an extension of that," Harrison said.
What's it like here?
During the week ... it's a cafe. We get a lot of local, neighborhood people. And then we get a good happy hour crowd, and on the weekends ... it definitely turns into a high-energy dance club.
The cool thing about it is you can be back here and you can have super thump-thump dancing and all that debauchery. But then you can walk up front, and it's different music, and it's a little bit more well-lit, and it's quiet, and you can talk.
What are some menu highlights?
We have some really great thin-crust pizzas, and the other most popular is loaded tater tots with chili and chives and cheese.
What kind of crowd do you get in here?
It opened up as kind of a lesbian-focused and gay bar, but ... we get a really diverse crowd. We get everything from bachelorette parties on the weekends, to people who used to come here when it was Little Brother's wanting to check out the space, or just people who want to dance.
What do they like to drink?
We have an extensive martini list; people definitely like to drink a lot of martinis.
What do you like to drink?
Whiskey, Scotch, bourbon. And I love a lot of wine, too.
What do you enjoy most about bartending?
It's just a really fun release on the weekends. And it's like I can be out without having hundred-dollar bar tabs and being annihilated.
Is there anything you don't like about it?
When lots of my friends come in, it's kind of tough. Sometimes I miss being able to hang out with them on the weekends.
Where do you like to hang out when you have time?
I love Burgundy Room and Marcella's. And Carabar is awesome.
