White lightning

Hundreds gathered on Capitol Square Monday to watch as Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher and Ohio's First Lady Frances Strickland lit the 15,000 white lights on each of two blue spruces outside the Statehouse.

Following the 93rd-annual Ohio Statehouse Tree Lighting ceremony, the brave souls who weathered the windy, cold evening moved inside to the Statehouse Rotunda and Atrium for a holiday festival. Guests warmed up with plenty of coffee and hot chocolate while enjoying several musical performances and checking out the holiday decorations and model train displays.

"The decorations stay up through the New Year," said Gregg Dodd, spokesman for the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board. "We invite all of Central Ohio to see the people's house during the holidays."
