BalletMet kicked off the holiday season on Saturday with its 25th-annual Nutcracker Ball. The group transformed the Million Air hangar at Port Columbus into an attractive setting for the gala, even working in an airplane to add to the overall ambience.

"The hangar is like a blank canvas, we have one open room to transform," said BalletMet spokeswoman Jennifer Sciantarelli.

The Nutcracker Ball is the organization's biggest annual fundraiser. BalletMet dancers usually perform at the ball, but this year, the group was on a trip to Buffalo, New York. Fortunately, the talented youngsters from the BalletMet Dance Academy were more than willing to fill in, and they did not disappoint.

The Nutcracker begins Friday, Dec. 12, and runs through Dec. 23. Cracked Nutz, a spoof intended for a more mature audience, will be performed Dec. 26-28.
