What's the biggest perk of being a bartender?
Money. Absolutely, the money. I wouldn't be doing it this long if I didn't make good money.
What would you be doing if you weren't a bartender?
Something with holistic medicine, like herbal healing. I'm really into that. But I decided a few years ago [not to do it] unless I move to Germany - it's not real widely accepted around here. So I want to open my own Irish pub one day.
So do you have any advice on treating a hangover?
Hair of the dog [laughs]. I haven't found any herbal remedies for that yet. A shot of whiskey will usually make me feel better.
What makes a good bartender?
Obviously, you have to pour a good drink. That's always been a hard and fast rule here. And I think you should be funny.
Have you heard any good pickup lines?
Since the Hampton Inn is [nearby], my favorite is when people just leave their room key. [They'll say], "When you get off work, if you're interested ..."
I'm sure you get a lot of out-of-towners in here. Where do you suggest they go for food?
I would say Betty's or Mac's or something that you can't get back home. I just try to show them that Columbus is a cool city, because I think we get a bad rap.
Where do you like to get drinks?
I love Burgundy Room, I love 185.
What do you drink?
Wine or Irish whiskey. Depends on my mood.
What's your favorite drunk food?
Pizza. Hound Dog's, to be exact.
