Theater: "The Killing Room"
It could be the space's total lack of windows or the angel statue hovering above the stage like a misplaced cemetery monument, but for one reason or another, there's something a little creepy about MadLab. All the better to present the world premiere of Mark Cornell's The Killing Room, a psychological thriller about a silent movie theater pianist (John Kuhn) whose tragic family history threatens his physical and mental well-being. The company goes all out to bring his torments to life, from smoke effects to obscure a crawling pack of imagined scarecrows to projected images representing both the movies at Jack's job and his delirious inner visions. The space just enhances a growing sensation that there's no escape.
