Dance: Ailey II at Capitol Theatre

Staff Writer
Columbus Alive

Dance legend Alvin Ailey always drew upon his upbringing in Texas - his memories of the blues, spirituals and gospel - as inspiration for his masterful choreographed routines. In the '70s, he brought together the most gifted dancers from his school to create the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, which quickly became one of the most beloved dance companies in America. Ailey II continues the tradition of Ailey's life and work. Under the artistic direction of Sylvia Waters, the modern ballet dance company presents both Ailey's dance classics and new choreography from the country's best young dancers.
