You've seen it in Wesley Snipes' "Blade" series, countless "Street Fighter" games and maybe even at OSU - but you'll have the chance to see capoeira in context during DanceBrazil's one-day-only performance next Tuesday at the Ohio Theatre. The wildly popular Afro-Brazilian dance form is simultaneously fluid, aggressive, acrobatic and playful. This dynamic fusion of indigenous folklore, music and dance actually evolved into an effective martial arts form used to counteract slavery in colonial Brazil - and DanceBrazil's capoeiristas promise an celebratory showcase of its past and its future.
