If you picked up supermarket tabloid Weekly World News between 1992 and 2007, you met Bat Boy. Remember? The man-beast hybrid was found in a cave, randomly attacked people, lived in Manhattan subway tunnels and eventually ran for governor of California. He even got his own off-Broadway show.

Local troupe Whistling in the Dark Theatre Co. will open its production of "Bat Boy: The Musical" Thursday, March 17, in The Green Room in the South Campus Gateway. Shows run at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through April 3. Tickets cost $20.
