Ten dance troupes from around the state will gather to demonstrate the diversity of their art form during the 2011 OhioDance Showcase. OhioDance, the statewide umbrella organization for the movement arts, is presenting the performance as part of its annual festival and conference, and this year's theme is "Dance Matters: Communities in Motion."

The showcase will feature ballet, modern, swing and African ensembles at the pre-professional, professional and college levels. Choreographers and dance companies from Akron, Bowling Green, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Shaker Heights and Tiffin will be represented.

Noelle Chun and Yu Xiao of Foreground Dance are going to perform "In Other Words," which explores the experience of learning a new language. BalletMet's senior performance ensemble will present the prologue from the classic Tchaikovsky ballet "Sleeping Beauty," and dancers from the Thiossane West African Dance Institute and the SwingColumbus will also perform.
