Staff pick: Between the Lines exhibit at Rivet

Jackie Mantey, Columbus Alive
"Never Look Back" by Jeremy Sorrell

One of the best parts about living in Columbus is that we have a ridiculous number of colleges and universities in our backyard. When the talent stays here, we all win.

This exhibit is a perfect example. Illustrations from local artists Jeremy Sorrell and Michael Newton, both Columbus College of Art & Design alumni, will be on display at Rivet this month.

Sorrell works as a concept designer for clients such as Marvel Entertainment and Express. He employs a variety of tools (ink, colored pencils, acrylics, watercolor, pen) to create battle-stricken robot characters with just enough emotional clues to leave you begging for their post-apocalyptic story.

Newton, meanwhile, uses pen, ink and acrylic on illustration board or wood to depict the female face and form. His art's linear technique belies the hypnotic depth of each woman.
