You’d think we wouldn’t need another typical sports bar smack in the middle of the campus, but Chumley’s isn’t a typical sports bar. With 50 beers on tap, a sizeable cocktail list and an extensive menu, Chumley’s is a cut above the average sports bar.

The open, two-story space is situated around its large block O bar and the 12 flatscreen TVs on the first floor. The second floor has another full bar with 50 taps and a view of the 70-inch projection screens that drop out of the ceiling like a Jumbotron.

Chumley’s is a sports fan’s paradise; when it’s wall-to-wall for a Bucks game a TV is viewable, and it’s perfect for watching all the NFL games on Sundays. When I stopped in last Sunday, a friendly patron was checking out multiple games for his fantasy football teams, which was one of the reasons I was there. The other was to watch my woeful Detroit Lions lose — again. But I digress.

Helping me drown my sorrows of the Lions’ deplorable afternoon was Chumley’s stable of drafts. Craft breweries like Founders, Bell’s and Southern Tier were joined by Ohio favorites like Columbus Brewing Co., Rivertown and Great Lakes. Chumley’s even had some beers you don’t normally see on tap like Rolling Rock and Shiner Bock. Domestic drafts run $3.75 and crafts are generally $4.75 — with a few outliers— and seasonals come in at $5. The cocktail menu has a number of traditional concoctions for $4-$7, and a boatload of sweet and fruity martinis ($7-$8).

The comprehensive food menu at Chumley’s has a bit of everything — sandwiches, snack foods and appetizers, wings, pizza, salads, tacos — all for around $8-$12. The burger list offers some of the more unique options, with toppings that range from the mouthwatering (Apple Bacon BBQ Cheeseburger) to the outright strange (PB & J Burger). I tried the Honey Bacon Burger ($9.70). You know how bacon makes everything better? Well, honey actually makes bacon better.

Chumley’s offers different specials seven days a week, that are surely popular with students, but worthwhile for anyone. Yes, there are massive mixed drink nights, but $3.75 Ohio beers on Saturdays and craft beer bucket specials too.
