Bar profile: Massey's Sports Bar & Grille an appealing choice for fantasy football fans

Jesse Tigges, Columbus Alive

Massey's pizza is an immensely popular Columbus chain that's surely been a part of many sports fans' home gatherings. With the grand opening of Massey's Sport Bar & Grille in Grove City on Sept. 5, sports fans now have a reason to leave the couch and go out to eat, drink and catch the big game.

While Massey's bills its product as "The Cadillac of pizza," the sports pub is more like a Ford truck - a no-frills, reliable and friendly joint that gets the job done. The space is a fairly typical sports pub with the centerpiece being a large U-shaped bar in the middle. A dining room area (theoretically designed for families) containing a handful of booths and tables is off to the side. There are also a number of high-top tables inside the bar area.

As far as Massey's Sports Bar & Grille's style goes, it's decorated like a brightly colored man cave. Every wall is painted red - really red - and an absurd amount of TVs plaster the walls, giving every seat a view of multiple games. Fantasy football-ers would be in stat-watching heaven on Sunday afternoons.

If the electronic furnishings and color scheme at Massey's is a bit over-the-top, the drink offerings are less extravagant. The drafts are mainly mass-produced domestics with a couple of imports and familiar crafts. Two big coolers house more options in bottles. Most beers run between $3-5.

The bar also has the standard liquor options and a simple cocktail menu - ideal for Browns fans needing something stronger to get through this season. No offense Browns backers, as a longtime Lions fan I know your pain.

By far the best reason to catch a game at Massey's is the food. All of Massey's signature pizzas are available, and there's a boatload of other pub grub options. All the fried goodies ideal for football season are present (mini corn dogs, mushrooms, onion rings, chili cheese fries, etc.) as well as a couple of pasta dishes and a number of salads.
