Drinking with Santa: A guide to bars open on Christmas

Abernathy Miller, Columbus Alive

After all the gifts are unwrapped and the fridge is full of leftovers it may seem like Christmas is over. Whether you're ready for Christmas to die, or you want to keep the celebration rocking straight through New Year's Eve, here are a few bars open on Christmas Day to power you through the rest of the holidays.

Skully's Music-Diner

After you've taken the requisite post-celebration disco nap, keep the Christmas spirit going for Ladies 80s. The venue will open at 8 p.m. for the party. Ladies 80s purists will be happy to know legendary DJ Chuckstar will be spinning all your favorite dance tunes.

1151 N. High St., Short North

8 p.m.- 2:30 a.m.

O'Reilly's Pub

Clintonville's favorite neighborhood dive will be open from 4 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, and feature a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Grab a brew and some grub to come down gently from the holiday high.

2822 N. High St., Clintonville

4 p.m.- 2:30 a.m.

Union Cafe

From 6 p.m. on, the Short North stalwart will be dolling out its dangerous Long Islands and refreshing martinis to enhance your Christmas cheer. The kitchen will be closed for the holiday, so make sure you eat plenty of leftovers before heading out - you'll want something to absorb all that vodka.

782 N. High St., Short North

6 p.m.- 2:30 a.m.

The Arena District rock bar lives up to its "open 365 days a year" tag line. From 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. enjoy any number of beers or cocktails, and take your pick of pub-grub inspired appetizers, burgers or flatbreads. Look for Christmas-themed drink specials, too.

106 W. Vine St., Arena District

8 p.m.- 2:30 a.m.

St. James Tavern

If you were on the "nice" list this year, pop into St. James Tavern for a well-deserved libation or brew. Most of its drafts go for $4, making it easy to drink and be merry, without worrying about your wallet.

1057 N. Fourth St., Italian Village

7 p.m.-2:30 a.m.

Café Bourbon Street

Can't take any more cheery Christmas tunes? Don't worry, your friends at Café Bourbon Street have you covered. At 9 p.m. the campus haunt will host Black Christmas, a darkwave dance party with enough piss and vinegar to cut through the sweetness of the holidays. DJs Scott and Erin Void and DJ Hahahahate will be spinning your favorite in industrial/death rock/cold wave and more, accompanied by horror movie visuals. Melted Man is slated for a noise set as well. Bonus: If you can't eat another bite of Christmas ham, grab a pierogi from Pierogi Mountain.

2216 Summit St., Campus

9 p.m.- 2:30 a.m.
