Daily Bulletin: Popcorn Pops at Columbus Commons
Grab your kids’ superhero costumes and head to Downtown Columbus for the first of this year’s Popcorn Pops concerts from the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
The CSO will perform “Super Heroes Soundtrack” starting at 7 p.m. June 29 at John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons, 160 S. High St. Tickets are $10, free for children younger than 2. New principal pops conductor Stuart Chafetz will lead musical selections including themes from Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Wonder Woman and James Bond.
Kids can enter a costume contest, snack on free popcorn and participate in pre-concert activities including art, face painting, inflatables and musical instruments from 5:30-6:45 p.m. The concert, geared for ages 3-12, runs about an hour. Blankets and lawn chairs are permitted.
Stick around afterward to watch “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” for free. The movie begins at dusk.
If you can’t make it this week, the CSO’s other Popcorn Pops concert is July 13. The “Movie Music” program will include songs from “Frozen,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” A free screening of “Coco” will take place at dusk.
