John Prine

Early this week, John Prine's family announced that the legendary singer and songwriter was hospitalized last Thursday and then intubated on Saturday evening after a sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms. His situation was described as "critical," and the whole world seemed to collectively gasp and tear up.

I, for one, kept replaying a specific memory I had of Prine when he danced himself off the stage of the Ohio Theatre in the fall of 2018. And I found myself craving a vodka with ginger ale in his honor.

Yesterday, Prine's wife, Fiona Whelan Prine, who recently recovered from COVID-19, said that John Prine is stable, though she later clarified the statement, saying, "[Stable] is not the same as improving. There is no cure for Covid-19. He needs our prayers and love."

In the midst of the outpouring of gratitude and love for Prine, quite a few musicians played and recorded covers as tributes and get-well wishes. Below is a sampling.
