Daily Distraction: The Newport takes center stage in new documentary
At present, the Newport, like most concert venues nationwide, is completely quiet, having been silenced by the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
With that in mind, now seems like an opportune time to delve into the campus venue's past, which PromoWest will do in a new documentary, "If These Walls Could Talk," that airs at 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 30) via the PromoWest Facebook and YouTube channels.
"We wanted to do something big for the 50th anniversary of Newport Music Hall (formerly the Agora) and given the time we are currently living in, we thought there was no better way to celebrate than to put the history together in this documentary,” Scott Stienecker, AEG Presents Regional VP and PromoWest Productions CEO, said in a press release. “This venue has been the longest continually running rock club in the country and it has impacted so many people from artists to agents to staff, we are excited to show the history and share this story.”
The press release also notes that the doc centers on "notable" interviews and performances from artists such as B.B. King, Queen, AC/DC and the Smashing Pumpkins, in addition to, uh, O.A.R., Walk the Moon and Caamp (PromoWest is always gonna PromoWest, I guess).
