Arts preview: "Les Misérables" swoons into Ohio Theatre

Jackie Mantey, Columbus Alive

Perhaps you're still feeling permanently scarred about "Les Miz" because of actress Anne Hathaway's horrendous lettuce and starvation diet employed to play ill-fated Fantine in last year's movie version of the musical. But listen here: The only thing about "Les Miz allowed to cause permanent emotional damage is its tragic subject matter. Got it?

Here's your chance to really stew in the epically sad, eventually hopeful story of 19th-century France. This run of a newly staged production of "Les Misérables," which features re-imagined scenery and projections inspired by Victor Hugo's paintings (talented chap!), is in town for one week only. Also worth noting: This edition of Les Miz's producer, Cameron Mackintosh, helped develop the film version starring Hathaway. Your great expectations are safe in his hands.

Tickets start at $33, but dreaming a dream is free.
