Arts preview: "Tuck & Roll" closing reception

Jackie Mantey, Columbus Alive

It's hard for photographer Amy Leibrand to turn down a gallery show. She's "kind of a gallery whore." (Her words, not ours!) So when CS Gallery opened its newly renovated NX Gallery-located in the area between the Olde Towne East space's paper studio and main galleryLeibrand couldn't resist the offer of a show.

The problem?

"I figured to get anyone interested in yet another exhibit I'd have to do something different," said Leibrand, a regular exhibitor at CS Gallery. "I have a hard time sticking with any one thing anyway and was already bored with the typical display methods. I knew I wanted to build something to mount photographs to, something interactive, I just wasn't sure what until I started banging things together."

Her signature style of photography - moody, layered - is enhanced and complicated by interactive, multi-dimensional displays, many of which reference escape theory as it relates to psychology. In what ways do we escape ourselves? Why?

Escape to the show's closing reception this Friday, with a special set by DJ Moxy from 7 to 9 p.m.
