Art preview: Movie series is right on to feature "Touch of Evil" over "Citizen Kane"
When director Spike Lee, who has been a film professor at NYU for more than 15 years, put together a list of essential films for his class he included Orson Welles’ “Touch of Evil” rather than the director’s more celebrated “Citizen Kane.”
It’s a wise choice. The borderland mystery features great performances from Janet Leigh, Charlton Heston and even Welles himself, who’s at his sweaty, bullying best in the role of a corrupt local police chief.
