Yes, sleepwalking plays a part in Mike Birbiglia’s directorial debut, “Sleepwalk with Me.”

The stand-up comic suffers from rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD), and the 2012 film touches on its effect on his life, including an episode where he injured himself falling from a second-story hotel window.

But the real heart of the movie is the way the comic addresses these events onstage, and how they gradually help him discover his own voice. It’s as honest a portrayal of an artist coming into his own as you’re likely to see, and it’s a topic likely to surface when Birbiglia visits CCAD for an artist talk on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
