Arts roundup: Columbus' Halloween party planner
When it comes to Halloween, the Capital city does not play around. Any excuse to dress up in a ridiculous outfit and make an ass of yourself is a good excuse. No matter what you're into, we have the Halloween hot spot for you.
If you're into live music
Woodlands Tavern, 668 Grandview Ave., Grandview. "The Spikedrivers Halloween Spooktacular with Subterranean House Band." 9 p.m. $10 advance tickets. Get rowdy and drink whiskey as The Spikedrivers deliver a raucous set at their Halloween themed show at Woodlands Tavern.
Ace of Cups, 2619 N. High St., Campus. "Ace of Cups Halloween Blowout." 8p.m. Free. Staff members and resident rockers will play cover sets of storied bands like The New York Dolls, The Runaways and The Lemonheads. Costumes and cover sets? What else is there in life?
The Brothers Drake Meadery, 26 E. Fifth Ave., Short North. "Halloween with Playhouse feat. Orson Buggy." 9 p.m. Free. Playhouse and Orson Buggy will be bringing jazz-fusion sexiness all night. Arriving in costume and drinking copious amounts of mead are encouraged.
Bossy Grrl's Pin Up Joint, 2598 N. High St., Campus. "Costume Karaoke" 8 p.m. Free. Dress up like the ghost of your favorite rocker and give your best Gene Simmons impression in honor of Halloween. Stage presence is everything.
Circus, 1227 N. High St., Short North. "Thriller Zombie Karaoke Party." 9 p.m. Free. Come dressed up like a zombie and sing along to Michael Jackson's smash album Thriller at Circus. The best zombie costume wins a prize! Bonus points if you learn the dance routine.
Rave to the grave
The Newport Music Hall, 1722 N. High St., Campus. "Wishful Thinking Entertainment presents Helicopter Shutdown." 9p.m. $25. Bay-Area bass junkies Helicopter Shutdown, also known (in some circles) as the "Wu-Tang of dubstep," will provide the beats while performance artists and a costumed crowd sweat it out on the dance floor.
Skully's Music Diner, 1151 N. High St., Short North. "Ladies 80s: Halloween Edition." 8 p.m. Ladies free, men $5. Disguise your unhealthy obsession with Madonna as a clever costume choice while you shake it your favorite '80s and '90s alternative hits at the Halloween installment of Columbus' favorite dance party.
